About the origin of the name "Bandung", a variety of opinions expressed. Some said
that, the word "Jakarta" in the Sunda language, synonymous with the word "appeal" in
English, means side by side. Ngabandeng (Sunda) means contiguous or adjacent. This,
among others, expressed in the Great Dictionary of English publication Balai Pustaka
(1994) and Sunda-Indonesia Dictionary Reader publication Setia (1996), that the word
"Bandung" means a pair, and also means communicating.
